H. H. Drikung Kyabgon Chetsang was born in 1946 in Lhasa, Tibet as Konchok Tenzin Kunzang Trinley Lhundrup. In 1950 he was enthroned in Drikung Thil outside of Lhasa as the supreme leader of the Drikung Kagyu. In 1978 he took up residence in Phyang monastery in Ladakh. His Holiness is at present living at Drikung Kagyu Institute (Jangchub Ling), Dehra Dun, India which he founded in 1985 as the headquarters for the Drikung Kagyu Order. He has meditation centers all over the world including The Garchen Buddhist Institute, a retreat center in Chino Valley, Arizona and the first Tibetan nunnery in North America, Vajra Dakini Nunnery, near Lincoln, Vermont, on land sacred to the Native Americans.
