H. H. Dharma King Dilgo Khyentse became the supreme head of the Nyingma Sect after the departing of H. H. Dudjom Rinpoche in 1987. His Holiness came from Shechen Monastery, one of the six main Nyingma Monasteries, located in Eastern Tibet. Starting in 1980 Dilgo Khyentse began building a new Shechen monastery near the great stupa of Bodhnath, Nepal. H.E. Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche VII (1966– ), Dilgo Khyentse’s grandson, is now the abbot of that monastery. At H. H. Dilgo Khyentse’s request, another Shechen Monastery and study center was also built at Bodhgaya, India.
