The Holy Vajrasana Temple and Retreat Center and the Xuanfa Institute are located in central California next to the foothills of the Sierra Mountains, between Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks.
From LOS ANGELES (226 miles, 3 hours 46 minutes): Take Interstate-5 to CA-99 north toward Bakersfield. Travel 132 miles on CA-99 to exit 131 and merge onto CA-41 N toward Yosemite. Take exit 128A to merge onto CA-180 E toward Kings Canyon. Turn left on McCall Avenue at traffic light and head north for 4 miles, then turn right on East Ashlan Avenue and travel 1.6 miles to 11507 East Ashlan Avenue. The Temple and the Xuanfa Institute are on the right across from Wolfe Lakes. Turn down lane. Park in front of building.
If you would like the shorter, more scenic and back road route, take exit 117 off of CA-99 in Selma and get off on Second Street. Follow Second Street through the quaint downtown of Selma. It will turn to the left and become McCall. You have 16-17 miles of two-lane road through orchards, farms, and irrigation ditches and usually little traffic and an almost direct shot to Xuanfa. Turn right on East Ashlan Avenue and travel 1.6 miles to 11507 East Ashlan Avenue as above. CA-180 and CA-41 are both new freeways and do not always show up on GPS.
From SAN FRANCISCO via OAKLAND (200 miles, 3 hours 27 minutes): Take Interstate 80 east toward Oakland., taking exit onto Interstate 580 east toward Hayward-Stockton for 46.3 miles. Continue on Interstate 205 for 13.5 miles to Interstate-5 North. Travel 2 miles on Interstate-5 to State highway 120 exit toward Manteca/Sonora. Travel 5.7 miles to State Highway 99 South toward Modesto/Fresno. Follow CA-99 south for 107 miles to exit 133B to State Highway 180 east. Follow CA-180 east for 6.9 miles to exit 63 for Clovis Avenue. Turn left on North Clovis Avenue for 2.8 miles then turn right on East Ashlan Avenue and travel 6.4 miles to 11507 East Ashlan Avenue. The Temple and Xuanfa Institute are on the right. Turn down lane. Park in front of building. [Alternative is to take I-5 South for 43 miles to exit 403A to CA-152 toward Las Banos/Fresno and continue to CA-99 South as above.]
From FRESNO YOSEMITE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT (10.1 miles, 20 minutes): Head northwest toward East Clinton Way and turn left on East Clinton Way to East McKinley Avenue. Turn left again on East McKinley Avenue to North Clovis Avenue. Turn left once more and travel north on North Clovis Avenue to East Ashlan Avenue. Turn right at East Ashlan Avenue and travel 6.6 miles to 11507 East Ashlan Avenue. The Temple and Xuanfa Institute are on the right. Turn down lane. Park in front of building.
From FRESNO AMTRAK STATION (9.6 miles, 20 minutes): Head northwest on Santa Fe Avenue toward Tulare Street; turn right onto Tulare Street; take a slight right to merge onto CA-41 N; take exit for CA-180 E towards Kings Canyon, traveling on CA-180 for 10.8 miles; turn left at traffic light on McCall, traveling on McCall for 4 miles; turn right (east) onto East Ashlan Avenue; and travel 1.6 miles to 11507 East Ashlan Avenue. The Temple and Xuanfa Institute are on the right. Turn down lane. Park in front of building. [Good service from San Francisco to Fresno via San Joaquin Line; arriving at Fresno at 2:06, 5:16, and 9:51 pm daily; leaving Fresno at 12:05, 3:20, and 4:45 pm daily; $30-39 one way; little over 4 hours.]
From XUANFA INSTITUTE to KINGS CANYON and SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARKS (75.3 miles, 2 hours): Head east on East Ashlan Avenue for 1.6 miles, turning right onto North Academy Avenue for 4 miles. Turn left at CA-180/East Kings Canyon Road for 41 miles. Turn right at CA-198 and travel 28.7 miles to National Park.
From XUANFA INSTITUTE to YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK (111 miles, 2 hours 15 minutes): Head west on East Ashlan Avenue 6.4 miles and turn right onto North Clovis Avenue for 1.1 miles, then turn left at East Shaw Avenue for 4.6 miles. Take CA-41 north for 60 miles, turning left at CA-41/Wawona Road and continue on CA-41 for another 28.1 miles. Turn left at CA-140/Northside Drive for 3.3 miles. Take slight right at Big Oak Road for 8.6 miles, continuing on Ireland Lake/Kuna Creek for another mile. Turn right on CA-120/Ireland Lake/Kuna Creek and continue on CA-120 into park. This road, which is the only road over the Sierra Mountains to Mono Lake and US 395 in this area, may be seasonally closed.
