This is about a layperson named Martin from China. Due to his lack of correct knowledge and views, he published a WeChat (also called Weixin) message which told lies with the consequence of misleading cultivators. Then he learned that H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III would expel without exception those Buddhists who told lies to deceive other people and do not correct and repent themselves no matter how high their statuses may be. These people will be advised to cultivate themselves through chanting Buddhas’ names and doing good deeds but will not be accepted for dharma transmission. H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III said, “If he truly and sincerely repents himself, corrects his evil deeds and returns to the correct path, he will not be expelled.” Now Martin has realized the seriousness of his mistakes and has taken the initiative to repent himself. The following is the complete text of his article of repentance.
Article of Repentance
I am Martin. On June 18, I sent a WeChat message about drinking wine in California. The real situation at that time was that I was staying at a fellow brother’s home and both this brother who is elder than me and I were drinking grape wine together. Because I was drunk and muddle-headed due to drinking and because of my incorrect knowledge and views, I was misled by other people to elevate my status. In that WeChat message, I mistakenly used a very respectful way of addressing. This fellow brother was once my master. I am very grateful to him for introducing me to have the opportunity of paying homage to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. Therefore, he is both a master and a brother to me. However, the publishing of this WeChat message created misunderstanding among many Buddhist disciples and brought about extremely bad effects. I am keenly aware that I am not in a position of, and have never had the opportunity of having meal together with or even following and accompanying at the side of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. Moreover, my drinking wine also violated the precepts. My doing so was caused by the fact that I was truly drunk and muddle-headed and was thus misled at that time. Otherwise, I would not dare to write about my act of violating the precept against drinking even if I was unimaginably silly.
H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III taught us repeatedly that a person must be honest and shall sacrifice oneself to benefit others in the process of cultivation and learning Buddhism. Now that I was misled into fabricating lies, I personally felt that I had committed serious offense against the precepts.
Therefore, I hereby offer my true and sincere repentance to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III, all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, dharma-protectors, and all Buddhist disciples. I beseech H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III and all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas to forgive my sins and faults. In the future, I will definitely be an honest Buddhist disciple. Otherwise, how could I possibly learn great Buddha-dharma and receive an initiation of state practice? I ask all people who read this repentance of mine to use it as a caution. We must understand that selection by dharma-protectors is a prerequisite to learning any truly high-level Buddha-dharma. Any untrue falsification will not be able to pass. From now one, I will be sure to listen to the recorded dharma lessons expounded by H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III often, seriously cultivate myself, and benefit living beings. What I said above is all true, because I want to attain accomplishment and liberation.
