by Zhaxi Zhuoma Rinpoche. Although many of those who follow the Buddha have amazing stories to tell about how the Buddha changed their lives, Nanda’s story is special. On May 16th, 2007, Nanda lost his only child, Melinda, as a result of an accidental overdose of prescribed medication she was taking for a host of physical and psychological problems. He called me and asked what should he do. Although his daughter was a very compassionate and kind hearted woman, she had suffered from severe bipolar disorder most of her life. A single mom who at the age of 34, left behind a 12 year old son Gage Decker, who even at this young age had already begun to show signs of his mother’s compassion for the less fortunate among us. I was able to immediately go to our Buddha Master and ask His advice. The Buddha already knew that Melinda had not gone to a good place and began an elaborate ceremony to raise her consciousness to a higher level. It worked. We could see that she had progressed. While her consciousness was rising, she began to sing and dance, she was very happy and upon learning this, so was Nanda and her son Gage.
