Certain evil people have slandered H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III as having conferred upon Himself the status of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III thus turning some Buddhist practitioners toward evil. In order to protect the wisdom roots of these practitioners, H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III made a most solemn vow:
If those recognitions, corroborations, and congratulations that follow did not come from the dharma kings, regent dharma kings, and rinpoches whose photographs appear on this page or from their temples and/or are not copies of the original texts but rather are my fabrications with forged signatures–if even one such case exists–then I should descend into hell without the possibility of ever leaving hell. If those recognitions, corroborations, and congratulations were written or typed by them and signed and/or stamped by them, the merit of this truth will bring everyone wonderful blessings and wisdom! –Signed, Vow maker Dorje Chang III.
That vow and background on the entire matter was published by the International Buddhism Sangha Association in several Chinese Newspapers. Also included in that article were the photos and names of sixty dharma kings, regent dharma kings, famous rinpoches, and temples who wrote letters either certifying the identity of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III or congratulating Him for having been so recognized. This plus facilimiles of the actual letters were also published separately in a special book, the Brief Introduction to H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III. In many cases the person signing the letter is shown with the actual letter or is shown affixing his seal or thumbprint to the document.
