Ven. Shantarakshita was the abbot or Khenpo of Nalanda and famous sutra-master who helped Master Padmasambhava establish Buddhism in Tibet. He is considered the founder of the Nyingma Sect. He helped build Samye monastery. It was only after Master Padmasambhava subdued the local demons that the monastery could be built. He wrote Ornament of the Middle Way (Madhyamakalamkara), one of the classics studied in Tibet that merges the two approaches to understanding the true nature of reality of Nagarjuna (the profundity of the Madhyamaka) and Asanga (the vastness of the Yogachara).
