The Seven Jewel Mirror

The logo for the Xuanfa Institute consists of  seven “jewels” on a sun-mirror, sailing on a moon boat in dharma-clouds. The seven “jewels” are Good FortuneMiracles or Holy Manifestations (magical power), the Five VidyasWisdomCompassionBecoming a Saint or Holy Being, and the Quick Path to Enlightenment.

This magical mirror of the Buddha-dharma can enable you to attain all these “jewels.” You can be blessed with good fortune and happiness and avoid all disasters. You will naturally acquire the supernormal powers and extraordinary skills with which you can help others. You will perfect your wisdom and compassion to become a holy or enlightened person and ultimately achieve buddhahood (perfection). The Buddha-dharma is marvelous and sublime! It is truly the wonderful existence of another dimension that is available for everyone. Every living being has the potential to become a Buddha!

His Holiness Dorje Chang Buddha III came back to these degenerate times to correct the errors that have crept into the various transmissions of Holy Dharma since the time of Shakyamuni Buddha and to demonstrate the true power of the Buddha-dharma. The book H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III provides a glimpse into the achievements and lineage of this extraordinary and holy Buddha.

We must be careful to follow only those vajra masters who are reincarnations of true Buddhas or Bodhisattvas. You should only follow an enlightened master and not decide on a master based upon his so-called spiritual lineage or how many books he has published or his academic credentials. You can tell if a master has learned the highest dharma by whether or not the master is able to successfully invoke the Buddhas to bestow true nectar. The transmission of the highest dharma requires initiations with true nectar. This is to prevent false teachers from deceiving people.

The first red jewel of “Good Fortune” explains how one acquires the good fortune needed to follow this path.

This second orange jewel of “Holy Manifestations or Miracles” provides evidence that the true Buddha-dharma does exist in the world today giving examples of some of the fruits of the path in the demonstration of supernormal powers and realization of holy states. Included are examples of some of the miracles and holy events surrounding the life of H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III and his advanced disciples. A glimpse at this jewel is available here and in H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III.

Shakyamuni Buddha predicted that great beings would incarnate in this Dharma Ending Age who would manifest a very high level of realization of the “Five Vidyas” (the third yellow jewel) and possess supernormal powers so as to perform miracles. Only in this way would those living today believe in the truth of the Buddha-dharma. This being would be able to display his powers to show others that the true Buddha-dharma still exists in the world, manifesting his mastery of the vidyas of causality (logic)and inner realization. He would also show outstanding ability in the vidyas of healing, craftsmanship (art), and sound. H.H. Penor Rinpoche, the supreme head of the Nyingma sect, told Zhaxi Zhuoma Rinpoche that “Never in the history of Tibetan Buddhism has anyone claimed to be an incarnation of Dorje Chang Buddha. Because this is the Dharma ending Age, it is good that such a high being has incarnated.” H.H. Penor Rinpoche also said that such a holy being should manifest many magical and miraculous attributes.

Jewels four (green) and five (blue) provide a brief introduction into the understanding, application, and practice of “Compassion” (bodhicitta) and “Wisdom” (prajna) that together with morality cover the essence of all the esoteric and exoteric teachings of the Buddha. The emphasis here is on what you need to know to cultivate yourself so that you can become an enlightened and holy being.

The sixth blue-violet jewel explains “How to Become a Holy Being” by following either the path of the arhat/pratyeka-buddha or the bodhisattva. It also serves to introduce the primary Buddhas and Bodhisattvas whom you will meet in this practice.

The seventh purple jewel shows you how you can follow the “Quick Path to Enlightenment” or the vajrayana path of Esoteric Buddhism. This section also provides guidelines for selecting a vajra master and taking refuge in the four jewels. A summary of this jewel is provided here to give an understanding of how one traverses this path and accesses these jewels.
